Maidenhead Railway Bridge
I stopped off by the river in Maidenhead today to photograph the railway bridge, complete with its new overhead electric cables. The bridge has two arches that span The Thames, and they are the widest and flattest in the world. Each span is 128 feet wide, and just 24 feet high. The bridge was built in 1838, by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and still carries trains on the main line in and out of London Paddington to this day. The arches are also famous for their sounding echos, so if you stand underneath them you get an amazing echo bouncing back at you - something we used to enjoy doing as children...
